The history of BMW M3 motor sport has been enriched by a further fascinating chapter as the BMW M3 GTS celebrates its debut on the racetrack and on the road. In terms of performance and safety, the most powerful version of the high-performance BMW M3 Coupe featuring a 331 kW/450 bhp engine offers the ideal preconditions for use at club sport events, whilst at the same time being officially road-legal. The BMW M3 GTS is produced at the BMW M GmbH manufacturing facility. In addition to a larger and more powerful V8 engine, exclusive tuning of the 7-speed M Dual Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic and modified suspension technology, the car, which is designed for club sport use, has also been specifically optimized with regard to aerodynamics and lightweight construction. This segment includes general views from the Ascari Race Resort, Spain, stills and driving footage of the BMW M3 GTS and interview with Rolf Scheibner.

Our first full test of the $53000, all-wheel-drive 2008 Audi S5 was a bit of a revelation. With a 354-horsepower version of Audi's direct-injection 4.2-liter V8 under its hood, the voluptuous Audi S5 ran a 13.3-second quarter-mile at 104 mph, just 0.1 second and 2 mph shy of the 420-hp 2007 Audi RS4 sedan. What's more, the S5's slalom speed is within a couple mph of the harsh-riding RS-spec sedan. "It ran a 13.3? With that kind of speed, who needs a $67000 RS4?" we asked ourselves. We believe so strongly in the 2008 Audi S5 that it earned our Inside Line's inaugural Editors' Choice Award. So we acquired (hastily perhaps) another 2008 Audi S5 and set it against the new 2008 BMW M3 Coupe, a car now fortified with V8 power for the first time. Speed-reading the specifications sheets of these two cars, they seem like natural rivals: the 354-hp, all-wheel-drive 2008 Audi S5 measured against the 414-hp, rear-wheel-drive 2008 BMW M3. But as it turns out, we gave the 2008 Audi S5 a bigger challenge than we had initially intended.

Despite having our first glimpse a few days ago, BMW pulled the covers off their M3 DTM race car today which is set to do battle with fellow German rivals Audi and Mercedes-Benz for the first time in 2012. But that's not the only DTM news reported today. In an attempt to diffuse the PR push by BMW, Audi released just a few hours ago renderings of their all-new Audi A5 DTM contender. Already the rivaly is heating up. During the reveal ceremony, BMW Motorsport drivers Andy Priaulx (GB) and Augusto Farfus (BR) were also introduced. On display over the weekend at BMW Welt in Munich, the BMW M3 DTM Concept Car is powered by an air restricted V8 engine, according to the technical regulations, and generates approximately 480 PS (353 kW / 473 bhp).
