  1. Bmw to Become Green

    April 27, 2010 by admin

BMW has recently announced their plans of reducing the CO2 emissions of their vehicles. To accomplish such BMW will make use of more efficient engines, regenerative brakes, and stop-start functions on most of its BMW model ranges.

The new Green Dynamics’ programme that that German automaker and manufacturer of BMW aftermarket parts will implement is designed to improve its cars ecological credentials while maintaining their dexterity.

A range of optimized four cylinder petrol and diesel engines will made part of the programme. The 2007 BMW lineup which is comprised of no fewer than 22 models will benefit from such programme by achieving less than 140g/km carbon dioxide emissions.

One of the most dramatic reductions will be seen on the 320d Touring with fuel consumption that is now down by 17 percent over last years model. BMW’s smaller car are not the only ones that are to benefit from the said programme, the uprated 520d will pump out an incredibly low 136g/km CO2.

And in connection with BMW’s Green Dynamics’ Programme, the German automaker has also announced that for the coming 2008 there will be fewer than 22 models with a CO2 level of 140g/km or 240g/mile or lesser. And of these 22 models is the highly anticipated 123d.

The four-cylinder, twin-turbo all-aluminum 2.0 liter units that powers the 123d is just one among the long series of remarkable engines from BMW. If in case the 123d really do come out it will become the first mass-produced car with a 200 hp plus engine with CO2 output below 240g/mile.

To be more accurate the engine is capable of producing 201 hp which allows the new 123d to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in a matter of 7.1 seconds with an estimated fuel economy of around 54 mpg.

The 123d will be offered in three and five-door variants plus it will also receive BMW’s new stop-start technology called the Efficient Dynamics which includes a brake energy regeneration function.

BMW and Mini models will also be given new engine variations. The 123d is scheduled to go on sale in September with pricing to be announced in conjunction with its release.

  2. The BMW Motorcycle Larger Than Life Legacy

    April 26, 2010 by admin

The BMW does not only produce cars; as a matter of fact one of its most earliest products was their motorcycle. The R32 BMW motorcycle was the first to be introduced, back in the year 1932. Decades ago this R series further developed and had their own trademark both in the racing world as well as in the commercial market.

The "boxer twin" engine came with the first BMW motorcycle and had cooled cylinders sticking out from opposing sides of the machine for a superior cooling mechanism, which was very unique for that time. In addition they also produced the K, G, and F series shortly after that. One unique feature was the addition of the lockable differential technology, which gave the motorcycles the capability for off-road use as well.

Measuring up to the Brand's Name

One of the primary reasons as to why people love the BMW motorcycle, compared to other widely known brands is that they give both a relaxed and comfortable ride as well as a sporty feel to them. Additionally, they have a very majestic and big look, however they are very light in essence, which is excellent for when you're riding off-road.

Back in 1993 a revolutionary change came into the R series BMW motorcycle. The newly introduced BMW R series motorcycle were now oil cooled and were equipped with four valves per cylinder. After that in 2004, double spark plugs per cylinder were added, together with a balance shaft.

This gave the motorcycle much more power, rising to 100 hp or a capacity of 1200 CC. If your desire is to have a very powerful but also comfortable motorcycle, you probably will not want to miss this BMW motorcycle series. This is basically because the motorcycle can be used for both common daily usage as well as rough riding.

    Sophisticated Performance Classes For Everyone

At present BMW has four primary motorcycle series, they include the G, F, R, and K series. The classes of engines are actually what the series are based on. The current F. series was introduced back in 1994 as the F650, with an engine that has four valves, single piston, with a 650 cc four stroke design and chain drive.

It was initially introduced as an entry-level BMW motorcycle, and subsequently was redesigned about six years after that with a different label, the F650GS. Presently, the most notable F series motorcycles are the 800S sports series motorcycle and the F800ST sports tour version.

The off-road versions of these motorcycles were introduced as G series and manufactured in cooperation with Aprilia. This particular series of BMW motorcycle is equipped with a 650 CC engine capable of producing 53 BHP. In a heavier range is the K series BMW motorcycle, that is competitive to the Japanese premier sport motorcycles.

This particular series is exceedingly fast and can achieve speeds of up to 280 kmph. The design of the current R series was constructed on the basis of the older R series, but much improved. And the latest R's, which are the R1150R, R1200S, and the R1200R, are capable of producing 122 hp, and is nearly as powerful as the low-end luxury car.

  3. BMW In The Field Of Golf Tournaments

    April 26, 2010 by admin

When I was a teenager in the early eighties there wasn't one of the local boys who didn't aspire to driving a BMW. This was the pinnacle of having 'made it'. A status symbol that would guarantee the girl of your choice would be riding beside you. Preferably black and preferably with blacked out windows, these cars could be seen doing regular laps of the town centre, much to the resident's annoyance.

When you think BMW, do you remember the young boys from years ago or do you think of the high powered businessman of today that drive their prized BMW's to work every day?

One thing that never crossed my mind when considering BMW was the world of golf. In fact, BMW have been holding their own golf tournaments since 1982, going professional in 1989 with their first BMW International Open. This saw them break into the world of professional golfing and heralded them making increasing success year after year.

Aside from the prize money for winning a BMW golf tournament is the tempting reward of a dream car if you succeed in getting a hole in one on a particular hole at each game. The first professional to achieve this was Jay Townsend in 1991 the BMW International Open. After obtaining his hole in one on the twelfth hole he was the lucky recipient of the keys to a BMW 325i Cabrio.

Another marker in the world of BMW golf came in 1992. The BMW International Open saw the one and only time when a total of five players had to battle it out for the prize money. It's the only time that this many players have been involved in a playoff at a PGA European Tour Event and it was eventually won by Paul Zinger 9the 2008 USA Ryder Cup captain). The other four were to take joint second place.

The BMW Asian Open golf tournament has recently taken place in Shanghai and was won by thirty nine year old Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland. His putt of about thirty foot on the eighteenth hole gave him a one shot victory over his opponent, Robert-Jan Derksen from the Netherlands.

Clarke had been in the top fifty players previously but had seen his position drop to 236 at the start of the BMW Asian Open. This was sadly due to his wife passing away in August 2006 and Clarke has had some major emotional hurdles to overcome to get back into his game. With two young sons to care for, this is a major feat for Clarke and his family must be immensely proud of him.

With his eleventh win, Clarke took home a staggering $383,000 for his time, although it has been a long, hard road. He says he has been practicing for ten to twelve hours a day to bring his game back up to speed and will continue to do this to regain his positioning the top fifty.

BMW are great believers in getting people into sport and to this end, offer scholarships to the most deserving and dedicated of young players. Their scholarship establishments have been in a class that have seen them at the top of this field and have earned them world-wide recognition for the part they play in helping young people achieve their goals and dreams.

  4. BMW 2002

    April 25, 2010 by admin

BMW 2002 hit the floors in the 1960's and contributed to the success of BMW to a huge extent. The company enjoyed great success with this car. Soon before the onset of 1963, the company discussed about its planning to enter niche markets. For this, it planned to launch 2-door cars that will be light compact and powerful. If your idea is to purchase BMW 2002, then you will also be interested to know the car's background beforehand to make an informed decision.

A follow-up for agile and powerful cars, BMW 2002 had set a new standard for mini cars. This BMW car was a most preferred choice for numerous drivers. It successfully stood on the top among touring races held worldwide, trying to build a solid foundation for sporting cars.

As BMW thought, the need for a wheelbase car having 2 doors might bring many advantages. The car's lighter body might help in the improvement of performance while the 2-door idea would just offer the car unique sporty look. 2-door saloon took less time in designing with model wheelbase (New Class) of 4 door, shortening it to 2 inches or 98.4 inches. Wilhelm Hofmeister re-designed the interior. The car's front received minor facelift. 4-door saloons supplied running gear and there was rear axle of narrow track that made the rear and front tracks equal on 2-door model.

    BMW-How it Emerged?

The car was soon about to launch, empowering it with 1,573cc "1600" engine. It got its identity as 1600-2 of which, 2 stands for the 2 doors. Finally, in 1966, 1600-2 saw its launch. It received great acclaim and emerged a winner. Lighter body of the car improved its speed, which was comparatively good than 1800 Sedan. The car's excellent handling was new to the car. In 1967, Frankfurt Motor Show announced another sportier version. It was the 1600ti, which displayed dual carburetor engine of 105 hp.

The late 1960's had BMW think about the possibility of offering the 2-door vehicle, a different engine as 2-litre relative of 1600ti's 4 cylinders. Soon after the announcement of 1600-2, Alex von Falkenhausen fitted a two-liter engine into the vehicle for self-use. Planning Director of BMW, Helmut Werner Bonsch made similar conversion on his own car. These two men had no idea about each other's car. BMW workshops had both the cars one day arriving together. The two men were fond of the two-liter 2-door car. Each planned to put before BMW board, a proposal stating the model was ready to undergo production.

As the Sales Director of BMW, Paul Hahnemann had thorough knowledge about what the US market required. As such, the sales director took decision in favor of the two-liter version despite opposition. This gave birth to BMW 2002. it had 3 distinct generations in its production life that lasted for almost 9 years. 1st generation cars came into being in 1968. cars of model 71 or the 2nd generation took to manufacture in 1971. Lastly, model 73 or the 3rd generation established in 1973. It lasted until 1976, which was end of the production. The BMW 2002 had many advanced features and was an upgrade of earlier versions of the car models.

  5. Bmw Sauber Previewed

    April 25, 2010 by admin

Since 1994, this season for the first time features a single Formula One race held in Germany - and it is entitled the "European Grand Prix" to blow. Nick Heidfeld and the entire BMW team are excited for their home race on the Nurburgring. Robert Kubica is also certain of a good result for the BMW Sauber F1 Team in the Eifel on July 22.

While full on the race is on the schedule in the actual pit lane, fanatics in the BMW Sauber F1 Team Pit Lane Park will have the chance to raise questions to Formula One experts and even try their hand at changing tires as well as refueling. Furthermore, they can clock up some race laps in the Formula One simulator, get the low-down on F1, and see and hold various exhibits that include a Formula One engine.

Demonstration drives in the Formula One race car will take place several times a day. This time Jorg Muller - the current FIA World Touring Car Championship leader – is behind the wheel, as well as demo rides in Formula BMW cars. Visiting the high-tech theme park to give interviews and sign autographs are Nick Heidfeld, Robert Kubica and reserve driver Sebastian Vettel.

The Pit Lane Park will be set up in zone A7 and will be open daily from Friday to Sunday just like last year. Even without an F1 entry ticket admission is free. The Pit Lane Park will be open from 10 o’clock in the morning to 9 in the evening on Friday, 10 in the morning to 6 in the evening on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. on Sunday. It will be party time in the Pit Lane Park on Saturday night from 7.45 p.m. Media with F1 accreditation are welcome to the BMW M Power Night, which is the highlight of the BMW M cars meeting.

Formula BMW Germany will be staging rounds seven and eight as the season's highlight and as part of the support programme for the European Grand Prix. Formula BMW Europe will be launched beginning next season. With five wins in six races, last year's rookie champion Jens Klingmann (Leimen) currently dominates the championship. Marco Wittmann (Markt Erlbach) is leading the rookie rankings.

  7. A Brief History of Bmw Motor Cars

    April 23, 2010 by admin

The BMW story starts way back in 1913 with the formation of the Rapp-Motorenwerke company by Karl Rapp. The firm were engaged in the production of aircraft engines from a former bicycle factory located near Munich. It was close to this plant that Gustav Otto established the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG aircraft factory and in 1922 these two organisations merged to form BMW. The letters stand for: Bayerische Motoren Werke.

In their early years BMW produced mainly aircraft engines, but also some motorcycle engines. In fact the BMW badge is supposed to resemble a spinning aircraft propeller. It wasn't until 1928 when BMW bought a car factory at Eisenach/Thuringia that BMW began producing cars. Along with the factory they bought the licence to produce a small car called the Dixi. The first cars produced by BMW at the plant were badged BMW Dixi, but the word Dixi was soon dropped. They introduced a new model called the BMW 3/15 DA-2 and the success of this car enabled them to survive the great depression.

It was in 1936 that BMW introduced the type 328 roadster which quickly became the most successful sports car of the time. The 328, designed by Fritz Fiedler, featured a number of innovative features including a stylish, aerodynamic body shape. It used an inline 6-cylinder engine which gave the car excellent performance and it was renowned for its excellent handling. The type 328 roadster accumulated a number of prestigious wins on the racing circuit and was nominated as car of the century in 1999.

BMW's involvement in aircraft engine production during WWII led to a 3 year ban on production at the end of the war. It wasn't until 1949 that they were able to return to production which they did with the 250cc R24 motorcycle.

It was in 1951 that BMW introduced a spacious, 6-cylinder sedan called the 501. This was followed by the 502 which featured a lightweight alloy V8 engine. Later in the 1950s they began producing the BMW 507, a lightweight, V8 propelled sports car. This was the vehicle they hoped would revive the sporting success they'd achieved with the 328 roadster. But this wasn't to be. They were losing money on every 507 that was produced and so production stopped in 1960.

Also during the 1950s BMW bought the design and manufacturing rights to the Isetta which was to become one of the most successful microcars in the post WWII years. It was a time when cheap, short distance transportation was much needed and the 2-seater, with an economical 250cc engine, fit the requirements nicely. Manufacturing rights for the Isetta were sold to various production companies around the world and these included the British Railways works in Brighton, UK.

The 1960s saw BMW enjoying a number of notable successes including the BMW 1500 which was a 1499cc, four cylinder touring sedan introduced in 1961. This was the first of the modern BMW sports sedans. They went on to produce a series of popular sedans including the famous BMW 2002. This was a 2-door sedan that had been based upon the 4-door 1600. The 2002 was to be the forerunner of the BMW 3 series and production of this successful model continued until 1976.

By the 1970s BMW had cemented their reputation as an innovative automobile manufacturing company. The 70s saw the introduction of the 3-tier sports sedan range consisting of the 3-series, 5-series and the 7-series. Between 1970 and 1993 BMW car production quadrupled and turnover increased by 1700%.

The 1990s, after 1994, saw BMW take ownership of the British Rover Group. This was not a successful venture and in 2000 BMW disposed of Rover.

Today's 'beemers' have retained their highly prestigious reputation for quality and reliability. The company are taking steps to reduce the impact they and their motor cars have upon the environment so we can expect to see more innovative and exciting developments from the motor car company who have not only survived two world wars and a massive depression, but thrived.

  9. John Daly Withdraws From Bmw International Open

    April 22, 2010 by admin

John Patrick Daly withdrew from the BMW International Open for personal reasons.

Daly, who earned US$220,000 earlier this week at the Telus World Skins event in Thornbury, Ont., won the BMW tournament in 2001. Daly, also known as ‘Long John,’ is famed for his "zero to hero" victory in the 1991 PGA Championship, his driving distance off the tee, his non-country club appearance and attitude, and his rough-and-tumble private life.

"We are very sad that John won't be taking part, but we understand his decision," tournament director Marco Kaussler said last Wednesday. "We hope that his private situation will resolve itself quickly and very much hope that he will be back taking part in the BMW International Open next year."

Two weeks ago, Daly said that his fourth wife tried to attack him with a steak knife while he slept. She claimed that two-time major champion made up the story to cover up a drunken fit. Meanwhile, the American professional golfer is expected to play next week at the Buick Open near Flint, Mich.

Daly turned professional in 1987, and won the Ben Hogan Utah Classic in 1990. In 1991, he joined the PGA Tour and won the championship. This victory gained Daly a remarkable amount of media hype due to the fact that he was the ninth and final alternate for the championship. Like the efficient BMW steering rack, Daly’s golf career flourished.

He entered the competition when Nick Price dropped out and no other alternate is available. Daly parlayed this chance into a first round score of 69, without a practice round. He finished the tournament with scores of 67-69-71, giving him a three-stroke win over Bruce Lietzke. Eventually, Daly was given the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year title. He was also the first rookie to win a major title since Jerry Pate in 1976.

In 1992, Daly won the B.C. Open and the 1994 BellSouth Classic. Three years after, he unpredictably won the British Open in a playoff with Italian Costantino Rocca at St. Andrews. Daly is the only eligible two-time major winner never picked to play in the Ryder Cup.

The BMW International Open, founded in 1989, is an annual men's professional golf tournament on the European Tour. The BMW tournament has started Thursday. Ernie Els leads the field along with Henrik Stenson and former champions Colin Montgomerie, Thomas Bjorn, Miguel Angel Jimenez and David Howell.

“That was a decent start to my tournament. I kept it in play, hit a lot of greens and made a few putts. It was a nice, enjoyable round. The greens are in great condition. They’re fairly flat and a nice speed. If you keep hitting the greens, you’re going to make some putts,” said Els.

José-Filipe Lima said, “I’m very happy with this round because I’ve had a bad start to the year, and this is very good for my confidence. I even missed some birdies on the back nine. I need to continue like this. If I make 7-under Par four times, I think it’s enough to win.”

“I changed my putter yesterday and had a pretty good round in the Pro-Am. Today I hit a lot of greens and holed a few putts too. I was lucky that I only ended up in the rough once. If your driving starts to go sideways here, you have a big problem,” noted Marc Farry.

Niclas Fasth said, “I played fantastically today. I’m very happy with my game and it’s nice to be back in Europe. I’m tired but considering the weather, maybe I have been lucky with my tee time.”
