Of course, everybody knows that BMW designs the best cars, the sleek look of the BMW 1-series, to the top of the line 2500 BMW parts.
But BMW would design a Boeing 787 jet's interior?
The answer is yes.
Last fall, Boeing Business Jets (BBJ) approached BMW Group DesignworksUSA, a unit of German auto giant, and asked her for allegedly making "a conceptual 787 aircraft interior for a fictitious, affluent, Russian client in his mid-thirties. "
DesignworksUSA naturally took up the challenge, with an interior that immediately reminds one of James Bond.
"We studied the young, Russian billionaire would require that the potential purchase of this aircraft group," says company marketing manager, Jackie Jones, in an e-mail. "By immersing ourselves in information about their lives, we were able to scenarios describing 'a day in the life of" developing ... "
DesignworksUSA caught his design for the Dreamliner by the fictional Russian billionaire in computer graphics, along with corresponding marketing glowing description that included:
- An aircraft that can function as a second home with luxurious amenities. "
- "The guests at the jet, a cocktail at the bar to enjoy while enjoying the preparation rather than vehicles of less than seen through the transparent floor." Yes, that's a BMW down there. "
- "The parking deck in the late 'a seamless air-to-ground experience" and "complete freedom to go anywhere to anywhere."
DesignworksUSA creative director Magnus Aspegren put it more directly, write an e-mail, "The vehicle display area in the front lounge would guarantee bragging rights for the owner of friends and relations during the flight."
The custom 787 also features a "technologically advanced office," a gourmet kitchen, a gym, a spa and a sauna, a lounge and a cinema with waterfall floors and a screen that spans two floors.
What's more, the feeling of space to increase, much of the interior of the plane walls are semi translucent.
In the illustrations provided by DesignworksUSA, even that master bedroom suite has a transparent wall. But the suite is also hidden at the back of the plane and is no doubt off-limits without an invitation.
For now, however, this dream of an airplane is just that - purely conceptual.
"Where a client approaches BBJ or BMW Group DesignworksUSA and expresses interest in the interior, we would have this as a baseline," Jones wrote.
Boeing spokeswoman Sandy Angers said the typical configuration of a 787 VIP jet will seat up to 75 people. With that passenger places, the range of the 787-9 VIP airplane 11,450 miles, so non-stop flight to almost anywhere in the world.
And the best thing? If the billionaire gets his desired destination, he will not need a hired limousine. The plane lands, the crew lost Billionaire's BMW from its parking place on the plane ... and in no time billionaire goes to spend more of his money.
